One person by himself is not a complete human being.
What Frye means is part of being a human and the human experience is to socialize and interact with others. So much of life is interaction with other people who most importantly we learn from. Without other people the learning experience would be compromised therefore humanity would not nearly be as far advanced if it were not for the discussion between people.
Completely agree. Social interaction is key to everyday living. This world (as you said) is so advance that if social interaction were to stop, this world would crumble on itself.
ReplyDeleteVery good explanation. I agree that without human interaction the learning experience would definitly slow down tremensly. Humans are social creatures who learn most of the time from one another.
ReplyDeleteThere certainly is a strong argument in favour of this, but where this knowledge comes from in the first place (ie: academic books) cannot be overlooked. Collaboration is a good way to advance (or, expand on your knowledge), but one cannot become knowledgeable in the first place simply be interacting with others around him - it requires a more complicated process. You need a foundation before you can expand on something. Frye seems to downplay the importance of non-societal learning sources, which I don't necessarily agree with.
