City of Thieves: 3
WOW, WOW, WOW! Finished the book! WHAT AN AMAZING BOOK. This book was my favorite books of all time. I don't read a lot of books but this one was amazing! Mrs. Ford was so right! In one of the last chapters I got choked up when one of the main characters died! I was extremely impressed. Please all of you, read this book! It is worth every single minute!

City of Thieves: 2
The book is getting good! I'm enjoying the story line. The 2 main characters Lev and Kolya are really interesting. Lev is a young Jewish Boy and Kolya is a Red Army soldier. Very interesting how their friendship is growing. We will see how this novel ends. Will they find the eggs??

City of Thieves: 1
Mrs. Ford recommended this book to me. I wasn't exactly sure what is was about. She said "it is one of my favorites! It is really action packed! I think you will enjoy it!" So going into this book, all I know is that it is about 2 men looking for eggs! How weird does that sound?? We will see what happens.

Bernie with the Money
From what I have been reading about Madoff and his Ponzi scheme, it keeps making less sense. Firstly, there is no coloration between his past and him now. As I mentioned in a previous post, he was a nobody in school... but as we know now, $64 billion stolen later, he is now very well known. Second, how could he get away without anyone else knowing? Within discussions with friends, we have determined that he MUST have had a counterpart, but who and how? As much as what he is was horrible, its quite intriguing.
So, if Bernie wasn't well known in his past, he sure is well known now.
Bernie was a Nobody
"There was nothing outstanding about Bernie, nothing that would lead anyone to believe that he was a genius or a financial whiz. There was nothing sinister about him. There was nothing about him whatsoever," ...
This quote really struck me. When I saw this, I was stunned. I would have expected Bernie to be "that kid" that everyone knew to be a trouble maker, or at the least a good talker. But no, he was (as quoted) a "nobody!" Shocking.
Madoff was a scout?!
"A scout tells the truth. He keeps his promises. Honesty is part of his code of conduct. People can depend on him."
As I was reading "Madoff with the Money", a book about Bernie Madoff and his Ponzi scheme. I came across this quote in one of the early chapters. It really struck me. I could never fathom one of the biggest faudsters in history to be a scout. Since being a scout is all about honesty, trust, and truth, this would be the last thing you would associate Bernie Madoff with, someone who stole more then $64 BILLION from innocent people around the globe. Wow.

Can society shape someone?
One person by himself s not a complete human being... (Page 6)
Frye is saying how 'one person can't do it all'. To shape someone to be who they are takes more then one person, it takes a society as a whole. I thoroughly agree that one person would be a no body without society help shape who they are. They would be emotionless, not aware of any of his surroundings, and not able to "be". Society is so important in our lives. Although we don't see how much it effects us, it does. It can range from your friends and family, up to people who who live half way across the world. The world is so intertwined it is unbelievable. Just a few years ago the Internet was some small thing. Now most of our lives depend on the internet. Ever realize someone has to manage internet usage? They are part of our society. This relates back to "The Love of Learning" showing how it describes who we are as a whole... Not as a person, but as a whole. We are what we are, thanks to the people around us.
